A shower is an essential part of our morning routine. But what we don’t realize is that the chemically treated water coming out of the shower can cause many serious health problems and affect our beauty as well. Shower filters can help fight these diseases and prevent dryness of skin and split ends in hair.

Health Benefits Of Using Shower Filters

Chlorine, which is generally used to purify water for drinking and bathing purposes, has many harmful effects on the body. It has been found that tap water may contain chlorine in levels that are as high as those recommended for swimming pools. This chlorine can lead to serious health problems such as cell damage, heart disease, hardening of arteries, respiratory problems and irritation in the nose and throat. As compared to normal water, chemicals in hot shower water vaporize at a much faster rate. This leads to a higher concentration of chemicals in the shower steam than that in the water itself.

During a hot shower, the heat from the shower releases chlorine vapors. These inhaled chemicals are quickly absorbed in the bloodstream and affect the lungs and the respiratory system. In addition, the skin pores widen during a shower and this leads to greater absorption of chlorine by the skin cells. Chlorine is also known to be an important cause of breast cancer among women. By using a proper shower filter, you can prevent such health problems.

Beauty Benefits Of Using Shower Filters

Chlorine in water can damage the skin and make it dry. This can cause the skin to lose its natural moisture and develop wrinkles. It can make you look older and cause skin rashes. Chlorine has a damaging effect on your hair, too. But the use of shower filters can help to keep your hair moisturized and prevent static electricity and split ends. It can give your hair a shinier look and make it more manageable. Also, due to reduction in skin dryness, your face will begin to glow and regain its lost elasticity.

A water filter is an appliance that removes chemicals and bacteria by means of chemical processes. Water filters are used to clean and purify more than just drinking water. They are also used for cleaning of aquariums, irrigation, swimming pools and etc.

Water filters are a necessity for life now days, due to the bacteria floating around in our water systems. Water filters prevent the cloudiness and color that you may have in your tap water coming from your house plumbing. These days clean healthy water is hard to find and that is when water filters come in handy. Many researchers have found out that most tap water is not safe because of environmental and industrial pollution.

Even though many people think bottled water prevents bacteria and chemicals from entering our body, they are wrong. The plastic bottles leave plastic residue behind in our water which is just as unhealthy as regular tap water. Also, you will have to buy tons of purified bottled water to complete you daily chores (like cooking and washing counters) if you do not have a water filter.

If you are on the go a lot or a hiker there are small portable water filters. These are great to bring with you when you are on the go so that you can have clean healthy water to drink even when you are away from home.

With so many families always on the go the bottled water industry has exploded with many people enjoying the convenience of grabbing a bottle off water and off they go in the car.

If you have a baby you also understand the meaning of busy and when you have to leave it is so easy to grab a few bottles of sealed water from your local store and take that to mix their baby bottle formula.

Due to the bottle water not even being as healthy as we think because of all the chemicals it makes it even more important to consider having a water filter especially for your baby and his or her health. Even if you get a drinking water filter only just for the purpose of your baby, you will probably find yourself using it more and more also.

Which is the Best Water Filter?

In this article, I will discuss the pros and cons of the several types of water filters that you can find on the market.

First, we have the active carbon filters that fit onto the faucet. These are simple and relatively inexpensive filters that mostly reduce the chlorine in the water with several health benefits, but they remove almost none of the other contaminants that may exist.

Second, the bigger counter top or under the sink filters of more than one stage. These use active carbon technology together with other forms of filtration, the most common of which is some kind of membrane with tiny holes in it allowing only smaller substances to go through the filter. For a filter like this, it is good that those holes are smaller than a micron. These types of filters, depending on the brand, reduce drastically most harmful substances that may be found in tap water. A word of caution here. More expensive does not necessarily mean better, so look at comparison charts carefully when deciding which one to buy.

Third, we have the reverse osmosis systems, which according to several sources, seem to remove almost all the contaminants of the water. The major disadvantage of this type of filter, in my opinion, is that they also remove the minerals that are good for our health. They produce water that, in the long run, may be harmful to our health, because according to some studies it deprives our body of several minerals. Other disadvantages are that they are much more expensive than most simpler filters and that they waste a lot of water during their operation.

I hope that I helped you in your search for the best water filter for your needs.

Home Water Filters - How and Why

With personal health concerns at an all time high, many people are considering home water filters. Contaminated water is a problem prevalent throughout the world, irrespective of whether you live in a third world country or in a developed country. Different bacteria, viruses and other microbes are found in the water we use, causing many water-borne diseases such as cholera, or diarrhea, just to name a couple. Effects of those alone are a big threat to the lives of children and people with a low level of immunity.

As for how do water filters work, home water filters have been developed to ensure the elimination of all types of contaminants; organic and inorganic chemicals along with all the disease-inflicting microbial presence. This, however, is just expecting too much from a water filter if it was not ever designed to do all the work. Microporous basic filtration, for instance, is really as basic as the name suggests. This will just stop the germs and microbes larger than the pores of the filter. The rest stays in the water and you cannot seriously expect these filters to do anything about the chemical contaminants.

As they get more complex, the filters improve but they have their weaknesses. The ceramic water filters will give you clean water but with most of the chemical contaminants still there because it just isn’t designed to remove those. Reverse osmosis filters will give you very ‘pure’ water but some say they are in fact too good at purifying water. ‘Pure water’, by the way, means the water loses its minerals even when those are important and necessary for the human body. Without these minerals, the water can take on an acidic quality and if used over a long period of time can in some cases harm the body more than drinking unfiltered water would generally.

Experts agree that granulated activated carbon filters impregnated with silver are among the best water treatments currently in use as they remove chemical impurities with the carbon filter. Combine that with colloidal silver, a known anti-biotic, and purging water of dangerous germs is not a farfetched assumption. While we consider how water filters work, it is good to note that the working of carbon filters ensures that these filters are capable of retaining the useful minerals vital for us in the water.

As humans, we have contributed our fair share to pollute our water with the ‘by-products’ of our industrial progress. We cannot forget the harmful indiscretion of polluting our water reserves either, we may not be the ones throwing trash in water, but it has happened and too long at that. Today, it is much more important now to protect our family and their health proactively than it was a couple of decades back. Home water filters are just a means to that end.

cq-counter-dbl-tall-1.jpgWhen you pour a glass of water from your kitchen faucet and then drink it, do you really know what’s going into your body? Typically, the water that comes from your faucet is filled with such elements as iron, sulfur, manganese, dirt, chlorine and other contaminants. While the elements may not be so abundant that they overpower the taste of the water, they are there just the same. For that reason, many people are using water filters to help clean their water so that they no longer have such elements as iron in their water.

Not Just For Use In Well Water - People who use water filters to remove iron typically use well water. That is, they actually have a well on their property where the water is drawn in through pumps to their home. This is usually the case in areas where it’s less urban and there’s more farmland. However, many people who get their water from the local municipal plant also use water filters to remove iron and other contaminants because water plants never get out everything and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Whatever You Use The Water For - Using a water filter doesn’t just have to be for providing drinking water. It can also be used to provide clean water for cooking, bathing and for other reasons, as well. For instance, if you are ironing with plain old tap water, you may find that your clothes can end up looking spotted and marred because your tap water is full of chemicals and other elements. If you use a water filter designed to remove the chemicals and the elements like iron you can be sure that your clothes will come out looking much better.

Water filters come in different sizes depending on the type of filter and how much water you want to filter at any given time. The costs vary but the amount of money you spend on your water filter is well worth it when you consider that we need water to live. But, it’s not just enough to say we need water to live, we need clean water to live. That’s why water filters are necessary to promote good health for you and your family and for anyone who drinks the water in your home. Whatever you intend to use the water for, water filters in this day and age just make good sense.

cq-counter-dbl-rep-1.jpgEveryone needs water in order to survive, but it must be clean. When we want a drink of water, we typically get a glass and take water right from the kitchen faucet. However, even city water is likely to contain impurities. These impurities are so small we cannot see them, but even if they are so slight that we can’t see them unfortunately we can taste them. One way to rid ourselves of these impurities in our water is by installing a countertop water filter.

Countertop water filters actually go on the side of your sink and attach to the kitchen faucet. They are installed in minutes and there are no special tools required. With the flip of a switch, one can have clean, fresh water poured into his glass. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Countertop water filters work by running the water through a series of filters before returning to the faucet. Because of the amount of time the water is in the filter, a greater amount of contaminants are removed.

The filters remove chemicals like chlorine, lead, organic chemicals, but leave minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium that add taste to the water. These filters also remove algae by-products and other sources of bad taste or odor sometimes found in well or municipal water.

All countertop water filters require that you change the filters regularly ( usually every 6 months ). This is because the filters, after removing so many impurities, can become clogged. When that happens, the filters obviously don’t work as well. The result is impure water, which defeats the purpose of having a countertop water filter. So, be sure to check the filter’s documentation to see when the manufacturer recommends changing the filter. Some models come with an extra change of filters but others require one to buy them so check to make sure an extra set is always on hand.

Countertop water filters have several advantages. In spite of the cost of replacement filter(s), the overall savings over bottled water is rather significant. Also, the convenience is a great selling point. Flip a lever and fresh filtered water for cooking or drinking pours from the faucet. Flip it back, and unfiltered water is available for washing.

countertop tripleAll the doctors and nutritionists, all the diets and the fitness instructors tell us to drink as much water as possible, the minimum of liquid consumed during a day being at least 2 liters. And then we hear from the environmentalists and other government organizations that water is contaminated with all kind of bacteria. The thing that makes drinking water safe is the water filter. These filters are available now in many forms and using different technologies. The main goal of the drinking water filter is to make the tap water or almost any other type of water safe for drinking.

There are several types of drinking water filters. Some of them are portable ones like for example the water pitcher filters while others need to be attached to the water pipe. Each of them comes with pros and cons and because of the large variety of these filters available on the market it is important to decide the kind of water filter you want. It is not only that there are drinking water systems available on the market, but also shower filters systems and whole house water filter systems.

The drinking water filter is by far the most popular one and is available as portable filter, counter top filter, under counter filter, and faucet mounted filter. The most popular ones are the charcoal water filters, the ceramic water filters, the reverse osmosis filters and the ultraviolet water filters. All the filtering systems have cartridges and filters that need to be replaced from time to time, and need to be cleaned. As in any other market, there are several manufacturers, but you are the one that should decide which type of filter and which manufacturer is best for you.

If you want to have purified water in your entire house than obviously the best choice is a whole house water filter system. However, these systems are somewhat expensive and their maintenance is not very easy either. Nonetheless, with such a system you will have purified water in the entire house because the filter system is connected to the pipe before it enters the house. The cost of a drinking water filter ranges from inexpensive to pricey, but again it depends on the technology used and the amount of water that can be purified.

A small water filter will probably be enough to supply your house with drinking water, but more and more people like to have the water they cook with purified, too. Counter top and under counter water filters seem to be good both at giving enough purified water to drink and cook as needed. And while the counter top water filter is easier to install and does not require extra plumbing work, it is also usually cheaper than the under the counter water filter.

So if you have enough space on the counter and you only want to have drinking and cooking water, you can definitely choose a counter top water filter. The main disadvantage of a drinking water filter is that you need a filter for each faucet where you want to have drinking water, but considering that most households get their drinking water from the kitchen tap only one counter top water filtration system would be needed.

More and more people are installing shower filters and water filtration systems for their homes. Some do because although they may not be sure if they really need them it sounds like a good idea while others who have used shower filters for even a relatively short period of time simply feel they cannot live without them. So where does the truth reside?

The truth is that a water filter installed in your home can protect you from many medical issues. Studies show that our drinking water is more affected by pollution today than ever before, but it’s not only pollution from industry, agriculture, human errors and accidents that affect the water, but bacteria and old water treatment plants that cannot cope with the rising demand for clean water have also had a negative impact. All of these factors can lead to serious medical problems.

All the debris and residues from industrial activities infiltrate the soil and reach the underground water table which is where our drinking water comes from. The demand for water is on the rise and the pumping and filtration stations are barely keeping pace with this demand. This all means that more and more impurities reach the water in our homes.

Chlorine, bacteria, sulfur, metal particles and other dangerous particles have all been found in lab tests of our running water. Imagine what these substances can do to your skin and health if you would continue to use unfiltered water for your showers. Your skin breathes through the pores and all these substances can enter your body over time.

The best way to avoid all these is to install shower filters in your home. The shower water filters are especially effective at removing the chemicals and bacteria from the water and independent studies have shown that the level of dangerous chemicals (such as chlorine and sulfur) is reduced by up to 90% by shower filters.

Unlike some water filters, shower filters are quite affordable and have the added advantage of being easy to install and set up. While you will have to replace the filter from time to time (periods will vary depending on the type of filter you are using), shower filters are one of the best protections for your family from the dangerous effects of untreated or insufficiently treated water.
