Suppose that you are a new mother, one who has just read that ingestion of water containing nitrates can damage the health of an infant. Although your husband has just left for the store that stocks water filter replacement cartridges, you wonder if you and your husband should go out and purchase some bottled water. Would such an action eliminate from the baby’s diet all possible sources of nitrate?

No it would not. A parent who wants to avoid giving food or water with nitrates to an infant needs to do more than simply taking the time to purchase bottled water. Once nitrates make their way into the soil, they can travel down to the level of the ground water. By using water filter cartridges, a homeowner can all but abolish any concerns about nitrates in the tap water.

Suppose that you are a new father, one who has set aside time to look at the available water filter replacement cartridges. Whether you are driving to a location that stocks such cartridges, or whether you are examining the online information on such cartridges, you probably have one question foremost in your mind: “How much do these water filter cartridges cost?”

The consumer who needs to replace the existing cartridge in a water filter system typically wants to find a discounted product. Indeed there are water filter replacement cartridges that can be purchased at a lower than normal price. Of course, someone who hopes to choose wisely, when selecting a replacement cartridge for a water filter system, should study more than just the price of the available cartridges.

Once a cartridge needs to be replaced, the health of those drinking the water that flows through the old cartridge could be in danger. In order to do away with that danger, an old cartridge needs to be replaced in a fast and efficient manner. That fact should be weighed against the asking price for any of the replacement cartridges on the market today.

By the same token, consumers need to understand that not every cartridge that has been made for use in a filter system is identical to all the other cartridges on the market. Tap water can contain many different types of contaminants. By purchasing wisely, a homeowner can feel secure about buying the right sort of cartridge for his or her water filter system.

The homeowner might want to buy a carbon block cartridge. The carbon in those cartridges acts like a sponge. It soaks-up the contaminants in the water. That carbon comes from natural sources-coconut shells, coal products and wood.

A homeowner might live in an area that was recently inundated by flood waters. Such a homeowner would have reason to worry about the presence of chlorine in the tap water. That homeowner might want to buy a water filter cartridge that could aid with the detection of chlorine in the drinking water.

Whenever a homeowner looks to well water as a source of tap water, that homeowner must be especially conscious of the dangers posed by flood waters. Flood waters increase the likelihood that chlorine could enter the well water (and thus the tap water). After a flood, a homeowner should not forget about the importance of water filter replacement cartridges.

Of course, even a homeowner without a well should consider investing in a water filter system. That homeowner should not ignore the importance of water filter cartridges. When functioning properly, such a cartridge can eliminate asbestos, copper, lead and mercury from the tap water. Still, when a homeowner ignores the need to replace such a cartridge, he or she puts at risk the health of all those residing in the home with the old cartridge.

Failure to heed advice about water filter replacement cartridges can cause the inhabitants in a home to get dry skin or GI problems. They might also report to a physician the development of reproductive problems. Water contaminants can cause any of those problems.

A tap that delivers pure, good tasting drinking water can free a homeowner from concerns about contaminants that might impair the health of those in the home. A water filtration system that receives a replacement cartridge on a regular basis, one that uses activated carbon filters and ion exchange micron filtration, can bring safe water into the home.

For that reason, insurance against possible health problems can be found among the available water filter cartridges. A guarantee of continued benefits from a water filter system with such a cartridge goes only to those willing to look, on a regular basis, at the available water filter replacement cartridges.

OK, let’s looks at this. How much time and effort did you take to research your water filtration system? Now you’re willing to render the entire system useless to save a few bucks on the water filter replacement cartridges? Houston, we’ve got a problem…

Just so we’re on the same page here, we agree it is absolutely necessary to change the water filter replacement cartridges on a regular basis, according to the manufacturer’s instructions. With so many pesticides and chlorine in our water it is essential that we change our water filter cartridges periodically, to assure optimum performance.

And, yes, in today’s fast paced world water filtration is more important than ever. Clean, pure and healthy water is not a luxury. It’s a necessity. Given the number of contaminants found in our water today, we should not forget the importance of water filter replacement cartridges. Water filter cartridges are the backbone of the system and have value that far exceeds the cost of replacement.

Let’s not forget, chlorine is put into the water, by water treatment facilities to kill bacteria in the water. The harmful effects of the bacteria are resolved, but that doesn’t mean the end result is healthy for us to consume. What we get not only doesn’t taste good, it’s not healthy for consumption, either.

Water filter replacement cartridges in our in-home systems can remove chlorine, as long as the filters are new and functioning properly. It may be a hard thing to remember, but replacing those water filter cartridges is very important.

Choosing the correct filters is important, too. Without the correct water filter replacement cartridges, our units can leak and the quality of the end product may be compromised. Less costly imitations of the manufacturer’s original parts are available at many outlets. But, cheap replacement cartridges are not the place to skimp. The only way to be sure that your water filtration units are doing their job is to buy the original water filter cartridges specifically designed for use with your water filtration system.

Try ordering your replacement filters directly from the manufacturer. That’s one way you can often save some money. There is even one program that will send your water filter cartridges out automatically, so that you never have to “try” to remember to replace them.

With your health at stake, do you really want to compromise the water filtration system that you have chosen to install in your home? If the less expensive water filter replacement cartridges do an inferior job, is the minimal savings worth the risk? Unless you’re willing to take several water samples and send them to a lab to verify that the less expensive water filter replacement cartridges are actually performing as well as the manufacturer’s replacement filters, why risk it?

Some of the less expensive filters are designed to remove the contaminants that are reasonably easy to notice, such as chlorine, so that you think they are doing the job. But, if they do not contain the additional stages necessary to block heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants, then you’re pretty much back where you started - confidently drinking contaminants!

Don’t forget, a quality water filter replacement cartridge, maintained in good condition has added, cost savings, benefits, such as protecting your household plumbing from corrosion and enabling you to produce your own “healthy” bottled water.

Frankly, we all want to save money, especially with fuel prices being what they are. It’s just that water filter cartridges are too important. It’s not like we’re trying a store brand of orange juice. The inferior taste is obvious, so we simply don’t buy it again. With inexpensive water filter replacement cartridges their performance is not as obvious. If they are not blocking the chemicals and other harmful contaminants readily available in our water, you probably won’t know.

Let’s face it, high levels of any chemicals harm the body. Good water filter replacement cartridges remove harmful chemicals and protect us from the harmful effects they have on our health and well being. When considering water filter cartridges, keep in mind they are akin to health insurance.

Remember to use water filter replacement cartridges recommended for your system, and replace them in a timely manner or sign up for an automatic ship program, if that’s easier for you. It’s just the safest thing to do.

With the purchase of a high quality water purification system, there are a lots of considerations that you have to make, including whether or not the system provides you with the best value with its replacement water filter cartridge. Sometimes you’re not getting quite as good a deal as you may think that you are.

Many times you will find that you’ll have what you consider to be a reasonably priced purification system only to find out that due to the lifespan of the replacement cartridges, you will be spending far more than you had planned to. That is why it is always important to be sure of exactly what you are getting into.

You see, the lifespan of a water filter cartridge is measured by the number of gallons that it can effectively clean before needing to be replaced. Now, this number can vary anywhere from 100 to over 1300 gallons. Then you have to figure out by the cost of the filter, and by how often you have to replace it, just how much money per year you’ll be spending.

The way that you will go about figuring this out is by knowing that the average amount of water used by a family over the course of a year is 1,000 gallons. So if you had a filter with a lifespan of 500 gallons, and the cartridge cost $48, then you would have an annual expenditure of $96.

If on the other hand your replacement water filter cartridge only cost $20, but only had a lifespan of 100 gallons, then you would have to buy ten of them over the course of a year. This would add up to your spending $200 annually, which I’m sure is a far cry more than you planned to spend.

So you can see how important it is to factor these costs into the equation as you could possibly save yourself a lot of money. Aside from the financial aspect of choosing a filter there are a few other things that are important enough to be covered here such as filter quality.

The water filter cartridge that you choose has to be able to protect your family from all of the contaminants that our reservoir system contains. What this means is that you will have to look for a filter that actually blocks the contaminants in your drinking water and employs four different methods of protection.

You need to have both an activated granular carbon filter and a multi media block in order to be able to effectively keep out all of the chemicals in your water. You will also have to have a sub micron filter in the cartridge so that all of the parasites and cysts will be removed, and an ion exchange for heavy metals.

If your replacement water filter cartridges contain all four of those elements, then you will have no worries ever again about the purity of your water. I hope you can use what you have learned from this article to help you make the right decision for you and your family.

The cost of water filter replacement cartridges is something you should consider before you buy a new system. If you review the company’s product performance data, the current price of their replacement water filter cartridges is a determining factor in the “cost of use”.

You may be surprised to learn that some of the cheaper systems have the most expensive water filter replacement cartridges, so the cost of use for those products is quite a bit higher than their competitors. Systems that cost less than 10 cents per day are easily affordable.

Some systems cost upwards of 25 cents per day, due to the higher price of their water filter cartridges or to the gallons of water that can be cleaned before the filters need to be replaced. It is reasonable to expect 500 gallons of water before you need to buy water filter replacement cartridges. 500 gallons is equivalent to about six months worth of drinking water for most families.

You should be wary of companies that claim their water filter cartridges are “maintenance free”. Usually, this means that instead of buying water filter replacement cartridges, you have to buy a whole new system every three months or so.

You should also pay attention to what contaminants the water filter cartridges can remove. Many systems only filter out chlorine taste and odor. While that’s important, there may be other things in your water.

One of the scariest contaminants is lead. You probably know that lead is a toxic metal that when ingested builds up in the body and causes brain damage, organ failure and a host of other health problems. Only the best water filter replacement cartridges block lead.

Another scary possibility is the parasite cryptosporidium. Treatment facilities use chlorine to kill most of the living things in the water supply, but cryptosporidium is resistant to chlorine, particularly during the microscopic “cyst” phase. Most water filter cartridges cannot protect you from cryptosporidium and other cysts.

Those are just two reasons that you need to read about the products certified performance, before you buy. Sales pitches make all water filter replacement cartridges sound like the best thing ever, but you can’t fall for the hype. If you do, you are putting your health at risk.

Even if you buy a really good system, it becomes worthless if you do not replace the water filter cartridges regularly. Follow the manufacturer’s replacement schedule to the letter. It may seem like a hassle, but it’s the only way to guarantee the purity of your water. As busy as people are these days and with all the things that they have to remember, the need to replace their water filter cartridges every 3-6 months (depending on the model and manufacturer) often takes a back seat to so called ”more important” things. But, when you really think about it, what could possibly be more important than clean water?

When it comes to replacing your whole house water filters you are going to want to make sure that you know what you are doing, and know what it is you are buying when you go to purchase the replacement. Among the more effective replacement whole house water filters are going to be the ones offering the reverse-osmosis and distiller options. When you opt to go with the reverse-osmosis type replacement whole house filters, these are going to have a separate part that was created to block out impurities, and then with the distillation filters they are going to turn water into steam, than condenses it into a clean liquid. Out of all of the different replacement water filters out there, these are the two that will give you the best investment, granted they are on the higher end expense wise.

As you take on this project yourself, there are going to be a few things to keep in mind when changing out the water filters. When you choose to change these out yourself it will be a lot cheaper and in the end, they will offer you great results as well. The filter cartridges are going to use fibers to grab hold of the rust and other debris.

Regardless of what type of replacement whole house water filters you decide to work with, all the cartridge filters are going to require changing of the cartridge throughout the life of the equipment itself. It will be important to check the manufacturers labels and warnings to see what the recommended life span is of the current replacement whole house water filters that you are using; when you do not change them out as required or recommended, than you are looking at damaging your entire system, and ending up with an overly saturated filter, allowing items to get through.

Be sure to read all of the directions carefully and know what it is you are looking at before you start changing different filters, look at all of the options, and if you need someone to install it don’t be afraid to ask.

Water filter cartridges are essentially the heart and soul of your water purifier. And this is the reason why they should never be ignored. In fact water filter cartridges are so important that the performance of your efficient water purifier is greatly determined by the quality of the cartridge used in it.

This makes it important to depend only on the water filter cartridges coming from the manufacturer of the purifier that you are using. Some people make a mistake of replacing their effective purifiers by a cheap cartridge. This way the ability of the purifier to handle many different types of contaminants is lost and they end up making their purifier literally worthless.

The fact is that these cartridges are designed specifically for a particular purifier and they are not to be used interchangeably. Some people feel they have to resort to this because the purifier originally installed in their home uses expensive cartridges, but rather than making the mistake of trying to save a few bucks, why not instead simply choose a water purifier that comes with an economically priced replacement cartridges in the first place?

With the advancement in technology, today even the advanced multi-stage purifiers are available at an economical price. They come with reasonably priced cartridges producing clean and pure water at something less than 10 cents per gallon.

Now isn’t that an insignificant amount to enjoy clean, odorless and great tasting water?

While it is important to use a water purifier in today’s polluted world, it is equally important to replace the purifier cartridge at the right time. Consult the manual and make sure you do this periodically. This will help in maintaining the life of the purifier. Generally, this is needed twice a year, but it largely depends on the quality and quantity of the water being filtered.

If you have a larger family or are staying in a location having numerous contaminants, it is recommended to get it checked periodically and make sure it is always up to date. Make no mistake, giving replacement water filter cartridges the due attention they rightfully deserve will will benefit you and your family in the long run.

If you are in the market to buy some type of water purifying system then you need to think about the replacement costs that are going to be associated with the system. If you are not careful then it could end up going over your budget.

These days there are many different companies that are offering ways to purify your tap water. Each of these systems has some kind of maintenance cost attached to it, but it can be hard to find.

Once you figure out the costs, compare as many companies as you can that fit into your budget and select the best one for you. You want to do this to make sure you are buying a system that works and one the does exactly what you need it to do. The cost of your replacement water filters can be just as important if not more important than the cost of the water purification unit itself in the long run.

Excerpted from an Ezine article

Why is it that the replacement water filter cartridge cost is never really mentioned when you initially buy a filtration system?  Because they probably don’t want you to know how much they cost!  Here’s a few tips that’ll save you some good money each year.

When most people browse around for a water filtration system, they often look for an inexpensive system- something they can pay a few bucks for TODAY and bring home to use.  Some go to their local department store, while others look online.

But I’m writing this article to inform you that it’s not always a good idea to buy the cheapest filtration system available (at least the cheapest one, initially).  And here’s why…

Let’s take Brita pitcher filters for example.  They are one of the cheapest units available on the market, which explains why they are the most popular.  There’s just something about a low price tags that gets everyone’s attention for some reason :-)

Anyway, these pitcher filters are by far one of the cheapest systems to get, costing around $25.  But what most people don’t realize is that each replacement water filter cartridge needs to be replaced 2-3 times a month!  And at $20 for a 3-pack of filters, you’re talking paying over $240 a year plus the initial $25 it cost to get the pitcher in the first place (and these type of filters are the least effective kind!)

The point I’m trying to make is this:  In order to better see how much a water filtration system is going to cost, you HAVE TO factor in the costs of each replacement water filter cartridge.

An great way to find an accurate measurement of overall cost is figuring out how much it costs to filter a gallon of water.  So with the water pitcher example, each replacement water filter cartridge costs about $7.50 and it filters 30 gallons of water.  So along with the $25 it costs to get the system, you have to pay 25 cents for every gallon of water that’s filtered.

But let me just give you an idea as to how cheap it can really be to own a home filtration system.  I bought a quality home filtration system that removes over 99% of most contaminants in tap water for $100.  The filter it came with lasted for 6 months (filtering 500 gallons), and each replacement water filter cartridge costs $50.  So, by spending $100 a year to filter 1000 gallons of water, it only costs me about 10 cents to filter a whole gallon of water!

Now that’s cheap! So, needless to say, always remember to include the cost of the replacement water filter cartridges in your overall descision.

The water filter installed in your home is supposed to help you by filtering and cleaning the water that reaches your faucet. Because today’s rivers and streams (even underground water supplies) are more and more polluted and the demand for fresh water in on the rise, water purifying plants cannot always offer you pure water.

To increase the level of protection for you and your family, you should install a cold water filter. But once you have installed such a water filter, it will not function forever. Water filter manufacturers specify that you should keep your filter in a good shape by avoiding damaging it and replacing it after its lifespan has ended.

Most people forget to replace the water filter and by doing so, they expose themselves and their family to more severe perils then by not having a water filter at all.

To understand why changing your water filter is vital, you should know how water filters work. Most modern water filters are based on the carbon’s property to absorb impurities from the water. The carbon filters are thicker then ordinary filters, taking the water longer to pass through all the filter’s layers, ending up with more pure and cleaner water.

The carbon water filter also absorbs bacteria and chemicals (such as pesticides) from the cold water in addition to the debris, but when the filter gets clogged, its purifying and cleaning properties will decrease. These sediments that gather in your water filter contain bacteria and other dangerous substances and if you do not change it at the recommended moment, you will end up with all these substances and debris in your cold water.

Replacing the water filter is fairly easy. Water filter manufacturers provide replacement filters at affordable prices, so buying them is not an issue. Changing the filter is also straightforward, as all you have to do is take the old filter out of its socket and put the new one in its place. Simply unlock the filter canister by turning its cap about one fourth turn to the left and redo the procedure, in the reverse order, to replace the water filter.

You can find the best prices for a replacement water filter either at online shops or in local hardware and plumbing stores. Just make sure you buy the exact replacement water filter for your particular type of cold water filter.
