Most of us are aware that keeping hydrated by drinking plenty of water has huge health benefits that can improve workplace efficiency which is just one reason the law states that a clean supply of it should be available in all workplaces. It is also recommended that everyone try to drink eight glasses of water a day. This is almost impossible if there is not a convenient source of water at work, and for this reason many employers are recognising the need to install dispensers in the workplace.

Once the decision has been made to install a water dispenser, the next step is which type of system is right for your needs. There are in fact two basic types of dispenser - a bottled fed, or a bottle-less, point of use dispenser that is plumbed in to the mains supply.

Bottled fed coolers

Bottled fed water coolers s can be installed anywhere that has an electrical socket. You can get bottled fed water coolers in both hot and cold tap, cold and ambient, or just cold. This type of cooler is fitted with a water bottle cartridge which is delivered by purified water suppliers, either on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis depending on the usage you think your business will need. The benefit to this type of water cooler is that it uses large bottled water for its supply, so it is especially perfect for places where plumbing is not allowed or is not practical to install. When choosing to purchase this type of water cooler you have to take into account the issue of space. You will need space not only for the water cooler but also all the bottles that will need to be stored however regularly you have them delivered.

Bottele-less, point of use water coolers

Bottle-less water coolers are basically a large scale filtering and cooling system. The water in this type of system passes through a filtering system eliminating all water impurities and giving an unlimited supply. The benefit of this type of water cooler is that it saves the hassle of refills and once you have it up and running you don’t need to do anything. This type of is also much more practical for companies with a large number of employees. Bottle-less water coolers can commonly be found in large offices or in canteens of large companies. They are cheaper than bottled fed water coolers because you don’t need to buy water bottles periodically, and you also save in the exertion of moving these spare bottles every time one needs to be changed as well as storing them.

Fortunately thanks to companies like Crystal Quest there is a practical solution to everyone’s needs, meaning we can all stay hydrated and healthy. By taking small steps such as investing in a water dispenser we can take care of our short and long-term health.

Having access to clean water is important to be free from any illnesses that can be brought about by polluted drinking water. People can also have access to clean water in their offices with the help of office water coolers. Office water coolers can come in different sizes, colors, shapes, styles and prices. Choosing the right kind of bottled water dispenser to buy for the office will depend largely on the space available as well as the water source.

Offices that have no direct water supply can opt for bottled water dispensers. Most of these units have sleek designs instead of the usual bulky ones making them perfectly suitable for any space. They also come in different materials like wood or stainless steel for durability and style. The bottled water is often placed upside down on the dispenser before it can be heated or cooled. Warm water is also available for this type of office water coolers.

For offices that have a direct line to the water source in their building, they can choose to purchase a bottleless office water dispenser where the unit is directly attached to the water pipeline for continuous supply of water. The filter system of bottleless water coolers will strain the impurities that can be included when directly tapping into the main water source. Regular filter changes will ensure that the water remains clean all of the time.

If you are considering installing a water cooler in your home or workplace, there are a number of factors to consider. Perhaps the most important factor is whether you should choose a water cooler that is connected to your mains water supply or one that uses bottled water. Each has its own set of advantages, so it is worthwhile spending a few minutes to learn about the differences and how they could affect you in terms of your time, energy, environmental impact, health, bottom line or pocket.

Mains water coolers are connected directly to your mains water supply, and require no plastic water bottles. They are very simple to maintain and remove the need for bottle storage, lifting and ordering. In this respect they are often favoured by businesses and people looking to maximize their time and effort, as no time is lost in these non-business related activities, and time is money!

Bottled water coolers have a considerable environmental impact. A significant amount of energy and resources is required to produce the bottles, fill them and transport them, as well as collect, clean and re-use them. And this is an ongoing drain on resources. If you are wishing to reduce your CO2 emissions, then a bottled cooler is not for you.

If you are interested in health issues, you may be aware of the debate surrounding the safety of Bisphenol A in certain plastics. The plastic used in cooler bottles usually contains this hormone altering chemical, and scientists are still unable to give a unanimous decision regarding the safety of this chemical. It is banned from use in certain products, primarily plastic baby bottles, in several countries and US states.

A mains water cooler is undoubtedly cheaper to run than a bottled cooler, as it has none of the ongoing costs associated with collecting, refilling and delivering water bottles. If you are wishing to reduce business costs, switching from a bottled to a mains water cooler is a very easy way to immediately start saving money.

Bottled water has experienced a huge increase in popularity during the last twenty years, thanks in the main to some clever marketing. It has been marketed as a healthy alternative to carbonated sugary soft drinks. Whilst there are some very good mineral waters available, the industry as a whole can be misleading, with some misconceptions about the sourcing of so called mineral or spring waters. Bottled water has often been pitched against tap water in terms of quality and taste, but the reality is that tap water is much more stringently regulated than bottled water. In the UK, taste comparison tests often show that members of the public cannot tell the difference between tap water and a bottled mineral water.

A good mains water cooler will use a sophisticated filter system to remove any possible waterborne bacteria and chlorine to ensure an unlimited supply of great tasting water.

The argument for choosing a bottle-less water cooler is a strong one, and perhaps even more so given the current global economic and environmental climate.

How safe is your drinking water? The only way to ensure pure, contaminant-free drinking water these days is through the use of a point-of-use filtration system. In today’s world where harmful toxins and bacteria are almost everywhere, it is a normal reaction for people to be concerned about the safety of their food and water.

Every year, cases of water poisoning increases. Several types of cancer can be attributed to the presence of toxic materials in drinking water, and what’s more, municipal water treatment facilities cannot always control outbreaks of dangerous bacterial contaminants in tap water. These facts have alarmed not only a number of households, but also a lot of medical institutions. Protect yourself and your family with a safe and clean drinking water. To keep your water protected and clean, here are the answers to the top questions you should know:

1. Are there different types of water coolers?
There are actually two basic types of coolers: the portable water dispenser, which normally uses refillable bottles, and the ‘bottleless’ cooler, which is connected to the mains water supply. Portable coolers are those you can install anywhere that electrical power is available. A portable water cooler is basically an electric appliance. Some have two taps, one for cold and one for hot, and others just dispense cold water. Portable coolers are fitted with large water bottle cartridges that are usually delivered by purified water suppliers on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis.

Bottleless coolers work differently. A filtering system is attached to the main water source. The water in a bottleless cooler passes through a filtering system that eliminates all water impurities, giving an unlimited supply of clean water with no refilling hassle. Ideal for any size home or office, bottleless coolers are obviously much more practical for businesses with a larger number of employees, where refillable coolers are not enough to cater to the numbers of people drinking water.

2. How do I find the right water cooler suppliers?
There are many stores, brands, and different types of water dispensers. To be able to find the supplier that will be best for you, here are the two important things to consider: time and money.

3. How do I check the quality of my water cooler?
Is your water dispenser reliable? Does it come from a trusted supplier? What are the specs of how effectively it will remove unwanted impurities, and what sort of impurities does your model remove? Knowing the answers to these questions will be a big part of your selection criteria and help you make sure you select a quality water cooler.

4. What features does my water cooler have?
Do the brands that your suppliers stock provide the right features that you are looking for in an ideal cooler? Do you like the cooler’s standard form and shape? Are you satisfied with the way it looks? Features are another thing that can affect your decision to purchase.

5. Does my water cooler company offer good customer service?
Unless you are purchasing yourself and installing it yourself, choosing a filtration model that requires installation may mean that dealing with a local supplier is the most practical. Make sure the company you purchase from maintains a good business reputation and will give you good after-purchase service. Your clean and safe drinking water depends on it!

6. What are the terms and conditions?
Don’t forget to pay attention to the terms and conditions attached as well as the cost, once you decide on a water company to supply you with the water cooler that you have chosen.

7. Is the health and safety of your family important to you?
Lead in drinking water is a leading cause of learning disorders in children. Clean and pure drinking water is essential to a child’s proper mental and physical development and general health.

In order to capitalize on the health benefits of water, it is essential to drink water that is pure and clean. It is also especially important for women to drink pure filtered water when pregnant, as lead found in tap water can cause severe birth defects.

If you ever find the idea of purchasing a water cooler right for your home or business, then there has never been a better time than right now.

A water cooler for home! Do you really need one? According to the Pacific Institute, in 2008, 53% of Americans were worried a great deal about pollution of drinking water (Top Environmental Concerns of the American Public: Selected Years, 1997-2008).

If you don’t trust your city water, you do have a couple of choices: filter your water at Point of Use; or purchase bottled water. With bottled water, you can buy cases of little plastic bottles, contributing to landfill problems. Or, you can have chilled, ready to drink spring water from a cooler which holds 5 gallons of great tasting water.

So what is a water cooler anyhow? It’s a freestanding device that cools water for drinking. This includes both bottled and bottle-less water coolers.

Most floor mounted water coolers are around 3′ high. However, there are table-top models also available on the market, if you have room on your counter top or table.

There are basically two different types of water coolers available on the market:

Point Of Use water cooler: This cooler connects to your city supplied water system, and holds the water chilled, ready for drinking. Also called a bottle-less cooler, there are filtered and unfiltered units available.

Bottled-Water cooler: This cooler dispenses water from a removable plastic (or rarely, glass) bottle commonly positioned on top of the unit. Most bottles are 5 gallons, but 3 gallon bottles are also available on the market.

There are a couple of different types of bottled water available:

Spring water is the most popular. Spring water is generally defined as groundwater that flows naturally and discharges to the land surface or into a a stream, river, or lak About 75% of bottled water sold in the U.S. comes from natural underground sources, which include rivers, lakes, springs and artesian wells, according to the FDA.

Purified water, which may have been purified by any one of a number of methods, may have started out as plain old city water. The most popular method for this water to be purified include reverse osmosis, de-ionization, and distillation; various methods of filtration may also be used, depending on the bottler. According to a four-year study by the Natural Resources Defense Council about 25% of U.S. bottled water sold is purified city water.

Most water coolers have cold and room temperature water dispensing… more expensive units have a heater. Here are the types available:

Cold-Only Units: These units dispense either cold water only. They use a refrigeration unit to keep the water cold.

Cook-and-Cold Units: These units dispense both cold and room-temperature water, the latter primarily for use for cooking, hence the “cook” part of the title (no, the water isn’t cooked in the cooler!)

Hot-and-Cold Units: These units dispense both hot and cold water. Some units may even have a third tap for room-temperature water. These models have an electric heater and a refrigeration cycle.

You’re probably wondering, how hard is it to maintain one of these things? Well, not hard at all. It’s generally recommended that you clean the machine on every bottle change.

How to clean your water cooler:

  • Unplug cord from electrical outlet of cooler.
  • Remove the empty bottle from your cooler.
  • Prepare a disinfecting solution by adding one tablespoon of household bleach to one gallon of water. I have personally used a stronger blend of bleach; just make sure you rinse your cooler thoroughly (as below). Other disinfecting solutions may be suitable. Some people have had good results with a combination vinegar/water mixture. However, I personally use bleach. You just have to be careful to rinse it extremely well afterwards!
  • Pour the bleach solution into the reservoir.
  • Wash reservoir thoroughly with bleach solution and let stand for not less than two minutes so as to be effective.
  • Drain bleach/disinfection solution from reservoir through faucets.
  • Rinse reservoir thoroughly with clean tap water, draining water through faucets, to remove traces of the bleach/disinfection solution. Repeat at the very least, four times.
  • Lift off the drip tray under the faucets and wash the tray in mild detergent.
  • Rinse well in clean tap water and replace on cooler.

And finally, enjoy your fresh, clean water no matter which type of water cooler you decide on!

If you are considering adding a bottled water dispenser to a home or office, there are a few features that you should consider before you make your decision. You may be familiar with the plastic dispenser with colored knobs to dispense water. These dispensers have a five gallon jug turned upside down on top of them to provide the filtered water that has been delivered by truck.

In shopping for water dispensers today, you will find dispensers that will hide the bottle or water as well as those which do not require a water bottle. The dispensers without a bottle are actually a self contained water filtration device. Either type of dispenser may offer features such as hot or cold water on tap at all times.

If you choose a dispenser with cold water, you may find that the feature is very useful. Cups or water bottles can be filled and do not need ice. Near boiling water works great for instant soup, hot tea or cocoa. It keeps users from having to heat water for these choices.

As said earlier, bottleless water dispensers are onsite water filtration systems. With bottled water, the water is filtered at a processing plant and kept in the bottles until you use it. Either process works well to remove the contaminates from your water and give you better tasting water.

In the office, many employees appreciate the effort to help them get enough water to drink that does not have a chlorine taste. Workers that have enough to drink are more productive than those who do not drink enough water during the day. By providing a dispenser, the employees do not have to bring their own bottled water to work. Addition of hot or cold water makes the dispenser even more useful to the employees.

There are several things to consider as you choose between the bottle or bottleless dispenser.

To prevent running out of water you must purchase the correct amount of water each week. Since deliveries only come about once per week, if you do not order enough water, you can run out before the week is up. If you order too much water, storage can be a problem, as you must store both empty and full bottles of water. The only required maintenance is to clean the dispenser on occasion.

The bottle-less water coolers do not require the storage area. They are connected to your homes plumbing and filter tap water to give it a great taste. Installation may require that you have the assistance of a plumber. You will be required to change filters on occasion and must clean the reservoir regularly. However, as long as you keep the filter changed, you will always have all the water that you need for your home.

There are many benefits in an office to switching to a bottleless water cooler. You can simplify things around the office, and increase productivity. Productivity is one of the principle, driving factors in the modern workplace. There are many ways in which the old, standard water cooler is causing your work environment to be much less productive.

If you have a rental agreement with your current water provider, then someone in your office has to spend time taking care of the paperwork involved. Someone also has to make sure that you keep track of the timeliness, and efficiency of water delivery. There are a lot of companies that also demand a deposit in the beginning to get your water process started. This is an additional annoyance for your accounting department.

A bottleless water cooler, will eliminate these frustrations, and many more. Once you have bought the machine, there will be no need to worry about any extra paperwork. Once a year, you will have to buy cartridges, and that’s truly all you will have to worry about. It can’t get much easier than that.

A bottleless water cooler system will take water from your own system of plumbing. There are no leases, and paper work to worry about, no deposits, and no tracking necessary. Even if your water cooler paperwork only amounts to 20 minutes of time each month, you are actually losing 4 hours a year, on the water cooler.

Another plus is that you will not have to deal with regular interruptions during the course of your business day, when the delivery guy comes around. With a bottleless water cooler system, you will not have to replace empty bottles yourself, or require that any of your employees do so. Even if your bottles are located right near your system, the process still takes up time, and is a constant annoyance for many. For a small office of 30 people, or less, the average water bottle use expectancy can equal around 15 or 20.

Replacing empty bottles can take up to 5 minutes for each bottle. So for, just 15 bottles, that’s 75 minutes of probable distraction every week to replace the water bottle supply. Once you include an employee’s benefits package, each of your employees can cost approximately $20 each hour. So how much money are you really losing for each hour of employee distraction?

A bottleless water cooler system will replace all of these issues. There is only one 1/2 hour installation, and that is it. You can have it installed during the lunch break, or before the start of business one day. In addition, though many of us feel that distilled, or purified water is completely safe drink, and completely free of bacterium or viral issues, it is not.

It’s the initial product that is completely safe. With conventional bottles, the person delivering, and handling your water often comes in contact with your water source and every bottle installed brings forth the possibility of cross-contamination. The culprit can be the person delivering the water, or the people in the office that install the new bottles. Whenever a bottle seal is removed or handled it creates a chance of illness or infection. This is one of the many reasons why bottleless water coolers are highly superior.
